About us

We believe a veteran and a dog deserve more than a handoff. They deserve a lasting plan.

Our mission

Why we exist.

For years, our giving happened quietly through our companies and personal relationships—helping when we saw a need, supporting charities we trusted, and stepping in when a veteran or a working-animal program needed resources. Over time, it became clear that doing it informally limited our impact.

Warrior and Working Animals Foundation was created to make that support official, repeatable, and scalable—so help isn’t random, and it isn’t temporary. We focus on veterans in need because the need is real, the stakes are high, and the right animal can change a veteran’s daily life in a way few other interventions can.

We also believe a service-dog partnership should come with long-term security. Summit Animal Health currently funds the program end to end, from acquiring and training dogs to placement and lifelong care. The Foundation does not take administration fees. Keeping ownership of each dog helps us respond if a veteran’s circumstances change—it is a welfare commitment, not a substitute for a clear, humane placement agreement.

Our work extends beyond placements. We also support organizations that train, rehabilitate, rehome, and care for retired military and working canines, and we contribute to veteran-centered programs where working dogs and horses play a meaningful role in recovery and connection.

This is how we serve: with high standards, responsible placement, and support that lasts.

Founder

Dorian Farmer

Founder, Warrior and Working Animals Foundation · Founder, Summit Animal Health

Dorian Farmer founded Warrior and Working Animals to directly support veterans and the working animals that improve their lives. Based outside Orlando, Florida and originally from North Carolina, he launched Summit Animal Health in 2018 with a single equine joint product and grew it into a nationwide animal health company with a full line of performance and wellness products.

Built through Summit’s growth was a consistent tradition of giving—supporting charitable organizations and individuals who care for working animals and the veterans who rely on them. That work became the foundation for this mission.

A pivotal moment came through Dorian’s friendship with Chris Reder, founder of DTOM 22/0, a 501(c)(3) supporting veterans. After seeing how profoundly a trained service dog can impact daily life for veterans managing PTSD and traumatic brain injuries, Dorian committed to expanding access to properly bred, trained, and matched service animals. In January 2026, the Foundation delivered its first trained service dog, Cairo, to Chris Reder through this partnership. A second service dog has since been placed, with additional placements to follow.

Through the Foundation, he and Summit Animal Health are committed to placing service dogs every year with qualified veterans across the United States, while also supporting organizations focused on the rehoming, care, and long-term wellbeing of retired military and working canines.

Dorian is a father of two and husband to Dr. Heather Farmer. He believes impact is measured by service—what you build, who you help, and the standards you set for the next generation.

People who bring lived experience, operational discipline, and a commitment to getting this right for veterans and dogs alike.

Chris Reder

Board Member · Founder & CEO, DTOM 22/0 Foundation

Chris Reder is a U.S. Navy veteran and the Founder and CEO of the DTOM 22/0 Foundation and DTOM Veterans Ranch, which provide a safe place for healing and recovery for military service members, veterans, and their families—built around hope, mentorship, support, and strengthening families.

Chris enlisted at 17 and served seven years as a Cryptologic Naval Intelligence Analyst. After an accident ended his military career, he experienced firsthand the challenges many veterans face transitioning back to civilian life. That lived experience became the catalyst for building a place where veterans can reconnect to purpose and community—”we fight together”—and where families are supported, not sidelined.

Through the DTOM Veterans Ranch, Chris and his team provide no-cost support services for veterans alongside equine-based programming and community-centered events. The ranch’s work has been recognized with awards, including recognition tied to the American Legion Auxiliary’s National Public Spirit Award. Chris is also the recipient of Cairo, the Foundation’s first service dog.

Steve Scearcy

Board Member · Owner, ROI Creative

Steve Scearcy is the owner of ROI Creative, a creative services company specializing in storytelling and brand development. With more than 35 years of experience, he has produced hundreds of short-form documentaries and multiple feature-length films, working alongside Academy Award–winning actors and collaborators, and is the author of several books.

Steve’s commitment to serving veterans comes from a deeply held belief that we have not lived up to the promise we owe those who risk everything on our behalf. Caring for veterans, especially those who carry mental, psychological, or physical injuries, is in his view not an act of charity but a responsibility—a moral obligation to provide dignity, opportunity, and continued purpose.

Looking ahead, Steve sees his greatest contribution in the area of story. He believes stories have the power to restore dignity, create understanding, and change the way people see those who serve, both human and animal.
